Easy DIY Holiday Tablescape with Rose Gold Leaf

~ A Sweet Little Treat for the Home ~

Last Thanksgiving, I had to come up with a quick and easy tablescape for our Thanksgiving Day guests. I did not have a lot of time to create something and I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on it, so I got creative.

I decided that I would like the table to be a mix of rustic and sparkle. I went with rustic for the floral centerpiece and sparkle for the table settings.

I created the centerpiece with floral stems and burlap ribbon from Michaels. To create this, I divided all the stems in half and laid them down with the blooms on the end and the stems in the middle. I used wire to twine all the stems together and covered the wire with the burlap ribbon tied in a big bow. Easy Peasy! On to the sparkle! 💖

Since it was Thanksgiving, I thought it would be fun have each person choose a word that they were thankful for, hoped to bring into their lives in the upcoming year, or that they resonated with. The words were written on “napkin rings” and placed in a basket for guests to choose and put on their place setting. The “napkin rings” were easy to make and was a fun little way to invite my guests to reflect on what makes their heart happy.

I started with wooden tags just like these – Wooden Tags https://amzn.to/3p4IhrV and I applied rose gold leaf to them. To do this, start with the leaf adhesive (or sizing) – Gold Leaf Sizing, Quart https://amzn.to/36hdOxP. I went with the larger size because I do a lot of gold leaf and it is expensive in the craft store, but there is a much smaller size if you prefer – Gold Leaf Sizing, 2 oz https://amzn.to/3bN5xTt. Apply it thinly, like you would apply glue. Use a disposable brush because it will be impossible to clean the sizing out after. The sizing will go on white but dries clear. Wait until it is dry and tacky to begin applying the rose gold leaf. This is the one that I used because I use the leafing on other projects, and it is really expensive in the craft store. I got 300 sheets for the cost of probably 10 sheets in the craft store. SCORE! – Gold Leaf, Silver Leaf, Rose Gold Leaf, 300 sheets https://amzn.to/3e1vhgr. Place the sheet of leaf on the tag and tamp it down with a soft, natural bristle brush while brushing off the excess. Once they were all complete, I used a chalk paint pen like this – https://amzn.to/2Id5Huw to write positive words like “Joy”, “Health”, “Peace”, etc. I chose simple white ribbon to create the “napkin ring” and tied it through the tag in a pretty bow.

Next up, the votive holders! I used inexpensive glass votive holders – like these https://amzn.to/3p4uOjX and covered the outsides with the rose gold leaf. What? You didn’t know that you could gold leaf glass? YES, you can! Isn’t that great news? It opens a whole range of crafting possibilities! 💁🏻‍♀️ You apply it the same way you applied it to the tags. Again, just make sure it’s on the outside because you will be putting a candle on the inside and I don’t think that would be a good idea!

And that’s it! A simple, fast, beautiful tablescape that engages your guests and helps them to reflect on what Thanksgiving is all about. Hopefully this idea will help reduce the stress of the holiday season and allow you to enjoy more time with your loved ones. 💝
